RCMP warn of numerous thefts at Raven Lake Campsite

RCMP in Alexis Creek is requesting the assistance of the public following a rash of thefts from the Raven Lake Campsite.

Cst. Jonathan Williams, says ever since the summer months thefts have been increasing with the most recent incident occurring on Monday.

“There are approximately three or four different occasions where unknown persons have attended the campground late in the morning of course around 2 or 3 o’clock in the morning and these suspects are getting to the campgrounds they’re stealing items such as firearms, generators, fuel, and chainsaws,” Williams said.

“The last one happened Monday morning at about 2 o’clock where three campers had their property stolen.”

Williams says campers should ensure that all valuables are locked and/or stored if camping at the Raven Lake campground.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact RCMP or Crimestoppers.

BCGEU strike headed to mediation

The B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) and the provincial government have agreed to enter non-binding mediation, expected to begin as soon as possible. Vince Ready and Amanda Rogers are to be the mediators facilitating the process. The BCGEU said in a statement, it's members will still maintain picket lines across the province while mediation proceeds.
