A Williams Lake teacher was honored yesterday after Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence.
Slyvia Swift of Nesika Elementary School received a Certificate of Achievement for Teaching Excellence.
Swift, who teaches all subjects to students through grades 2 to 6, aims to take her students to the “learning edge” and encourages them to take risks with project-based lessons.
Swift was one of 54 teachers from across the country who received an award that recognizes outstanding elementary and secondary educators who help students to meet the challenges of a 21st-century society and economy.
