Three not-for-profit literacy programs in the Cariboo will be receiving funding from the provincial government to help give adults the skills they need to take part in the growing economy.
Minister of Advanced Education, Andrew Wilkinson says the funding will go hand in hand with public post-secondary institutions within the region.
“This new funding provides an opportunity for people to make sure their skills are up to the necessary baseline so that they can take whatever they need in terms of upgrading or courses, or whatever they want to train for a better role in the world.”
Receiving funding from the $2.4 million dollar announcement which will be distributed to 75 communities throughout the province include:
100 Mile House and Williams Lake through Thompson Rivers University and Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy Society, as well as Quesnel through the College of New Caledonia and North Cariboo Aboriginal Family Program Society.
The provincial government has invested more than $25 million in community adult literacy programs, helping approximately 100,000 adults improve their reading, writing and math skills since 2001.
