School District 28 to re-examine cell phone policy

Should students be allowed to use their cell phones in class?

Many districts throughout the province are struggling with finding an appropriate answer to that question.

Quesnel is one of the districts that does have a policy in place.

Board Chair Tony Goulet…

“We have a policy 704, use of electronic devices, and we actually did that in June of 2013, so we do have a policy,” he said.

“Part of that policy is that one of the lines that during institutional time it will be at the discretion of the classroom teacher, so devices can be used at the discretion of the classroom teacher”

Goulet says they will be looking at this policy again.

He says while cell phones can be a very effective educational tool to look things up it is very difficult to monitor if the student is using it for that purpose or to text friends.
