Location of New Primary Care Clinic Announced

BC’s Health Minister was in Quesnel Wednesday afternoon for an exciting announcement on the location of a new primary care clinic.

Speaking from across the street from GR Baker Hospital, Terry Lake called it a team effort at the local level with his Ministry playing a supportive role…

“It really is your local MLA Coralee Oakes that recognized the concern that was there and saw the problem and developed and worked with Northern Health and with Mayor Simpson to really bring this together,” he said.

” That is what you need-good local representation that can make the Ministry aware of the problem and we can be there for support which is what we’re doing in this case.”

Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes actually had to move her office in this case as it was her old location that was chosen out of 6 possible homes for the new facility, which is set to open early in 2016.

Planning is now underway for renovations to the space.

Two part-time physicians who are already established in Quesnel will work out of the clinic along with two nurse practitioners who have recently been recruited to the City.  The idea is that they will then work with a team that includes mental health and addiction clinicians, pharmacists, dietitians, registered nurses, and home support staff.
