Man charged in connection to multiple assaults at Women’s Centre

A 34-year-old 100 Mile House man has been charged in connection to multiple assaults at the Women’s Centre on Birch Avenue that took place last Thursday.

A spokesperson from the RCMP says the man under the influence of alcohol, entered the facility and proceeded to assault a member of staff and another female passerby before being removed from the building and subsequently arrested.

It’ s an incident that underlines the need for a women’s center said Sonja Ramsay, the Executive Director for the Centre, who feels the support systems are inadequate to prevent this type of incident

“My frustration is that this was preventable and in our society the fabric of our community, of our society, of our province, of our country, the systems that we have sent up we don’t necessarily have the services and/or the supports that would allow this man to seek out the help he could possibly need.”

Both Ramsay and the RCMP say that the attack was not targeted on an individual or organization but rather on women in general.
