Additional Health Care Assistant Spaces announced for Quesnel campus

18 additional health-care assistant spaces will be available at the College of New Caledonia campus in Quesnel.

Minister of Advanced Education Andrew Wilkinson made the announcement Tuesday with Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes.

He says the government is providing the $153,000 funding to the College in response to the demand for health-care assistants in the region.

“Our labor market projections have indicated that there is room for a group of health care assistants to be trained so we’ve decided to come in with the necessary funding for a one-year group health assistants to be trained so they can satisfy local demand in that occupation.”

Wilkinson says the Ministry goes to all the institutions across the province, 25 of which are publicly funded, and ask them on an on-going basis what are some local issues that would warrant some investment in higher education beyond the millions of dollars the provincial government already spends.

The one-time funding was awarded after CNC answered a call for proposals from public post-secondary institutions.
