Crews respond to wildfire west of 100 Mile House

Crews from the Cariboo are on the scene of a wildfire west of 100 Mile House.

Fire Information Officer Emily Epp, says the blaze is burning northwest of Snag Lake.

“The wildfire was discovered Wednesday afternoon during one of the Cariboo Fire Centre’s patrol flight. We quickly sent air tankers and they surrounded the fire with retardant and contain it at 0.5 hectares.”

“Today (Thursday) we 13 firefighters as well heavy equipment on scene continuing fire suppression.”

Crews have responded to seven new fires in the past two days, the majority of which were holdovers from last week’s lightning.

The current fire danger rating is “high” and “extreme” in the Cariboo Fire Centre, with only a few areas of “moderate”.
