Driver of Semi Truck Carrying Hydrochloric Acid near 150 Mile Pronounced Dead

A semi driver, who was carrying hydrochloric acid was pronounced dead Tuesday morning after his truck rolled at the intersection of Highway 97-Likely Road in 150 Mile House.

Williams Lake RCMP say they received reports of the single-vehicle rollover in which the driver was still trapped inside, as well as the rear of the trailer smoking at around 4:30 am.

Emergency crews including the Williams Lake Search and Rescue extracted the 55-year-old male driver from Prince George from the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident closed Highway 97 in both directions causing drivers to take detours through Mission Road and the Mountain House Road.

RCMP say there is no evidence at this time to suggest any type of hazardous spill.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Williams Lake RCMP.
