Crews from 5 Fire Departments Respond to Blaze at 100 Mile Landfill

Five fire protection agencies were on hand in 100 Mile House Saturday to help contain a fire at the dump.

25  firefighters and ten pieces of equipment from Lone Butte, Forest Grove, Lac La Hache, the 108, and 100 Mile House were on hand to fight what was a significantly threatening blaze says Fire Chief Roger Hollander.

“Our crews were able to respond quickly and extinguish the hillside and protect that treeline.”

“If it got into the dead pines, it would threaten the area around it. Certainly, the priority was to contain it in that one main pile itself.”

The fire started in the demolition pile at the dump and spread in size to about an acre threatening the eastern tree line before being contained over the course of six hours by the firefighters on hand.

A structure fire in Lac La Hache on Friday meanwhile had three fire protection agencies including Greeny Lake, 108, and Lac La Hache volunteer fire departments responding.

20 members were on scene to fight the blaze for three hours which resulted in a good save according to La La Hache Fire Chief Terry Murphy.
