New $5.88-million facility to aid Cariboo firefighting

The Cariboo Fire Centre will be getting some modern new digs after it was announced Friday that the province will be contributing $5.88 million dollars to the cause.

According to Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett, the new facility will provide a much-needed replacement to some older facilities

“It is going to be a one-story 22,000 square foot main building and three upgraded outbuildings,” she says.

“This one new facility will replace eleven separate structures and trailers-some of them are about 40-years old.”

Barnett says that in combining eleven different locations into the one, the Fire Centre will be more efficient, better equipped, and cost less to operate.

The new building is anticipated to be completed by fall 2016 at the Williams Lake airport.
