Puntzi Lake Fire no longer a wildfire of note

There’s good news when it comes to wildfires of note within the Cariboo Fire Centre

Fire Information Officer Emily says the Puntzi Lake Wildfire is no longer a wildfire of note.

“Crews have been on site all this week working hard on mop-up and patrol and we had a helicopter doing an infrared thermal imaging scan on Wednesday that did not find any hot spots within 100 feet of the perimeter,” she says.

“Because of that, the fire is now in patrol. We have about 25 firefighters on site today just finishing up patrols on that fire.”

Epp says a 1.5-hectare lightning fire caused was discovered in the Eagle Lake area, approximately 1 km southeast of the Polleywog Lake in the Chilcotin region Thursday evening.

“Air-tankers responded and boxed it in with retardant and we have 23 firefighters today working on suppression.”

There are currently 5 wildfires of note still burning within the province, including the Little Bobtail Lake Fire in the Prince George Fire Centre.
