Charges recommend against Anaham resident After complaint of shots fired

Charges are pending after shots were fired on the Anaham Reserve on Saturday night.

An Alexis Creek RCMP member was investigating an incident involving a stolen ATV when he heard shots being fired in the vicinity of the ball diamond.

Cpl. Dave Tyreman, Media Relations with North District, says they don’t believe they were shooting at the officer but that led to further investigation and four possible suspects.

He says one, who had outstanding warrants, was arrested without incident.

Tyreman says that wasn’t the case with two others…

“They actually found them on an ATV, the driver and the passenger. When the police indicated for them to stop, these individuals continued on in a dangerous manner,” he says.

“We had a helicopter nearby. The helicopter assisted in keeping an eye on these individuals while the members kind of stood back.”

Tyreman says the ATV eventually broke down and that’s when officers moved in and made a couple of arrests, still on the Anaham Reserve.

He says police seized a loaded rifle near the abandoned ATV.

Tyreman says a charge of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failing to stop for Police are now being recommended against a 19-year old Anaham resident.

The investigation continues.
