No current risks from Algae Bloom at Horse Lake

Tests results Friday evening show there is currently no toxins in the algae bloom found at Horse Lake.

Interior Health confirmed the results but still recommends that individuals avoid the area as those results do have the potential to change.

“Now as that algae grows and dies and goes through different phases of its’ life cycle we will be retesting it but we do recommend at this time that people try to avoid the lake as far as swimming and stuff,” says Jennifer Jacobsen, Environmental Team Leader with Interior Health.

“Those changes can happen before we get our next set of testing done essentially.”

Jacobsen says they had tested the bloom for blue-green algae which under certain circumstances can produce a toxin posing a public health concern.

She says Interior Health will be testing the lake again next week.
