Likely Chamber of Commerce Recieves Provinical Funds

A $50,000 fund has been granted to the community of Likely to assist local businesses affected the tailings pond breach.
Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes says the valuable grant is from a partnership between the provincial government and the Likely Chamber of Commerce.
“The Likely Chamber of Commerce came forward to us and said these are some of the things that we need in the community as far as marketing. They run the Visitors Center here, they run a lot of tourist type organizations on selling that message. This is just one more step to assist them in getting that positive message out.”
Oakes says she is confident the fund, which will be used as a marketing tool, will grow in the near future.
Oakes adds the funds are a valuable asset to the community.
“We’ve got Cariboo in crisis running in the media for several months, people forget that the Cariboo is a significantly large region. We’ve got 7,000 lakes, we’re a great place to visit, we’re a great place for tourist activity. The announcement of $50,000 is a step in retooling our marketing brand.
A community relief fund meanwhile has been established at the TD bank to support those affected by the Aug. 4 Mount Polley Disaster.
