Not everyone was approving of recommendations identified in the road safety audit close Western Avenue Highway access in Williams Lake.
Feelings continue to be mixed on the closure of Western Avenue at the most recent Committee of the Whole Council Meeting.
Councillor Ivan Bonnell says he does not support the proposal that would close off highway access at the eastern end of Western Avenue but permit a southbound right-in movement.
“At this point in time, if the City is going to support the restricting of the southbound out off of Western, it will force everything down Donald. I am of the opinion of the current status of that Donald Rd and where things are at, we will create a problem on Donald by doing that.”
Bonnell adds that there no evidence of problems with the current state of Western Avenue’s South Bound Access on Highway 97.
Counsellor Danica Hughes also did not support the recommendation.
Proposed changes to Western Avenue will be further at the next City Council meeting on Oct. 7.
