First Shift Comes to Williams Lake

Bauer and Hockey Canada have announced that Williams Lake will be one of thirty communities across Canada to host the First Shift program.

In an effort to add a million new hockey families by 2022, First Shift will provide equipment and six weeks of hockey experience to first time players between six and ten years old.

Though enrollment numbers are static, there are proportionately fewer kids playing hockey says Hockey Canada’s Vice President of Development, Paul Carson.

“The percentage of kids that are in engaged in hockey is dropping. We want to make sure, that we are doing everything we can to bring families to the rink and make families excited about the sport.”

The Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association will be hosting a welcome event on Oct. 7 for families and children who have signed up for the program.
