Totem Pole Ceremony At Tetzan Biny

A new symbol will stand tall for the Tsilhqot’in Nation.

The Tsilhqot’in Nation will be raising a totem pole this morning at Teztan Biny.

Tribal Chair Chief JoeAlphonsee, says the totem is a great gift for First Nations from nationally renowned master carver, Tim Paul.

“There’s no government grant involved in that, that’s just one family, that’s done that totally on their own…They’re delivering it from Vancouver Island all the way up here; that’s a huge contribution,” he said.

“Just the value of the actual totem-pole itself is probably the biggest contribution anybody’s ever made to the Chilcotin on any issue.”

The totem pole raising ceremony starts at 11 am this morning in Tetzan Biny.
