100 Mile RCMP Go Back to School for Training Drill

For the second year, 100 Mile RCMP and Central Cariboo traffic services conducted a lockdown drill at the Peter Skene Ogden Secondary school on Thursday.

Staff Sgt Svend Nielsen said the drills went very well, and they had a number of members involved in practicing the drills and performing safety checks while in the school.

Nielsen added that the scenarios were made more realistic by the presence of school board personnel in the school. He said they will continue to engage with Principal Geoff Butcher regarding plans for future practices, which may include adding an element of noise (an air horn, for example) in order to improve the training aspect for the RCMP during the drill.

“Parents will receive notification from the school when these events are planned,” Nielsen said.

The drills allow police to practice Immediate action Rapid Deployment techniques. RCMP did not use or display any weapons during the drill, which lasted about 25 minutes.

If you have any questions regarding the drill, please contact the 100 Mile Detachment for more information.

The BX Morning Show

I first got into radio when I was a kid when a friend and I made our own radio shows on cassete tapes. Growing up in 100 Mile House, I did a workstudy at this very station.

Thanks to some good advice from my radio mentor Larry Rode, I got a certificate in broadcast arts in 1991. After failing to break into radio after school, I did other jobs but kept my hand in, working as morning host and program director at my universitys station, WUFK in Fort Kent, Maine.

Coming back to 100 Mile, when the afternoon and news job opened up, I took the dive back into radio! When Larry retired after nearly 35 years in 100 Mile, I took over the morning show. I’m happy to be at CKBX, where I always wanted to work, and waking up my hometown!

Tune-in with Chris weekday mornings from 6am to 10am
