Cariboo Students Shine at High School Cross Country Running Event in Quesnel

Several Cariboo runners made the podium at a cross country running race at West Fraser Timber Park in Quesnel on Saturday.

Ruby Nicholas from Correlieu won the junior female race handily once again.

She was more than three minutes faster than her nearest opponent.

Ashton Chretien from Peter Skene Ogden in 100 Mile House won the bantam male race by more than three minutes as well.

Darlyssa Chretien was third in the senior female race.

Joshua Andres from Correlieu was third in the senior male race.

Logan Dyer from Lake City Secondary was the runner-up in the junior male race, Shaylin Brommit and Adrienne Brommit, both from Lake City as well, were second and third respectively in the bantam female race, and Sarah Balbirnie from Peter Skene Ogden was third in the juvenile female race.

Up next is the zones on October 19th in Dawson Creek.

The provincial championships will take place on November 2nd in Abbotsford.

Garbage truck fire gets put out quickly in Quesnel, one in hospital

BCGEU strike headed to mediation

The B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) and the provincial government have agreed to enter non-binding mediation, expected to begin as soon as possible. Vince Ready and Amanda Rogers are to be the mediators facilitating the process. The BCGEU said in a statement, it's members will still maintain picket lines across the province while mediation proceeds.
