Quesnel Council Urge Government to Develop Transportation Plan

Quesnel City Council is urging the Provincial Government to develop a transportation plan for the North Cariboo.
A letter will be sent to Minister Todd Stone as well as to Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes to not only address significant traffic and safety issues with the bottleneck on Carson Avenue and Front Street but also the need for a connection between Quesnel and the Nechako Basin via a route over the Blackwater River.
Deputy Corporate Administrator Gina Albers…
“Not only will such a passage allow future opportunities with the new New Gold Water Project for Quesnel and area residents, but will ensure that the remote aboriginal communities of Nazko and Kluskus are also in a position to take advantage of employment options.”
The letter goes on to say that despite the fact that these communities lie less than a hundred kilometers away from the proposed job site, the only access is through Vanderhoof which leads to more than an 8-hour commute.
A bridge would also allow better access to timber for local mills.
The idea for the letter came out of meetings the City and the Cariboo Regional District had with Provincial politicians at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention in Whistler.
The CRD is expected to send a letter as well.
