Block Watch: An important program in reducing crime says Williams Lake Mayor

The City of Williams Lake is reminding residents of a program that fights the isolation and separation that crime creates and feeds upon.

Mayor Walt Cobb says Block Watch helps reduce crime and shares his own personal experience.

“If it wasn’t for somebody that happened to be walking by on the street, we may not have got our goods back.”

“He saw someone packing something on his shoulders in the middle of the day; it was actually 11 o’clock and he thought this doesn’t look normal and phoned the RCMP.”

“Here there were 3 guys. They were hauling stuff out of my home.”

Cobb says it important that individuals are aware and know who their neighbors are.

Further information on Block Watch is available by contacting the City of Williams Lake or the Community Policing Office.
