Wildfire Update: Tuesday, July 14

Crews are continuing suppression efforts on 2 wildfires of notes within the Cariboo Fire Centre.

Karen Powell, a Fire Information Officer Assistant says a wildfire 10 km south of Riske Creek at Bald Mountain is now 50% contained.

She says the lightning-caused fire is still estimated at about 640 hectares.

A second wildfire of note meanwhile (cause under investigation), north of Puntzi Lake is still estimated at over 8,000 hectares and remains at 30% containment.

An evacuation alert remains in effect.

Although the fire received varying amounts of precipitation over the weekend, just 3mm of rain fell on the area yesterday according to Fire Information Officer Jonathan Scott.

A drying trend is expected over the next few days.

No new fires were reported overnight.
