Wildfire Updates: Friday, July 10

Information provided by Fire Information Officer Terry Murphy, Friday morning:

  • Puntzi Lake
    –>has not changed as far as size goes from yesterday remaining at 1200 hectares
    –>crews working overnight managed to establish 80% of a fireguard in place with about 1km to go
    –>76 firefighters, 3 helicopters, air tankers, and 8 pieces of heavy equipment remain on site
  • Farwell Canyon (Bald Mountain)
    –>pretty much same shape as yesterday. Has been measured in at 440 hectares this morning.
    –>equipment and crews from yesterday continue suppression efforts
  • near Rideau Lake Road
    –> in mop-up stage

Murphy says crews will be actively monitoring the weather which according to Environment Canada is calling for a 60% chance of showers or thunderstorms today and tomorrow.

He reminds individuals that a province-wide campfire, open-burning, and firework ban remains in effect.

Fire danger ratings have risen to extreme in the Cariboo Fire Centre.

Williams Lake RCMP says new Disclosure Unit has increased community involvement

Williams Lake RCMP Staff Sergeant Brad McKinnon addressed the Williams Lake City Council in a delegation with an update on police activity.
