The Williams Lake RCMP received a complaint of a serious assault that took place near the 3-way intersection of Broadway Ave near the Husky Gas Station.
Officers arrived on the scene yesterday at 11:33 pm to find a passing motorist had stopped to render assistance to a 70-year-old man who was lying on the road bleeding profusely from his face.
A witness advised they heard a vehicle stop, heard a man yelling, then the vehicle sped off northbound on Hwy 97.
As the vehicle departed, the witness saw the elderly gentleman lying on the road.
The only description of the suspect and suspect vehicle provided to police was that it was a small-sized hatchback (make or model unknown) and the suspect was a Caucasian man who “looked like a skateboarder type”
The only information the victim was able to tell police at the time was that he remembers being yelled at then he was knocked down and kicked in the face.
“This report is extremely alarming to us, and we are committed to putting all necessary resources into finding the person or persons responsible,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Del Byron.
“Although this attack appears to be random in nature, I can also confirm at this time that it appears to be an isolated occurrence and the public is not at risk.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Williams Lake RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
