Bye Bye! City of Quesnel to Demolish Brown Cabins on Friday

The wheels are now in motion to finally knock down and remove the brown cabins on Lewis Drive in Quesnel.

Mayor Bob Simpson confirms that the contractor is securing the site and removing some of the outbuildings before beginning to take down the main buildings Friday.

Simpson says the entire site is being treated as a hazardous waste site because of mold, asbestos and drug paraphernalia.

We asked the Mayor is the City had its eye on any other sites…

“This is an extreme situation of dealing with a public safety issue and a property that has clearly deteriorated.”

“We have also used nuisance bylaws to get some property cleaned up where people have been hoarding machinery, old equipment in their yards where it hasn’t been appropriate.”

Simpson says they are also looking at bylaws in the fall for dealing with shipping containers that people are now using to store things in.

He says all of this is done to make sure private property is maintained in accordance with taxpayers’ wishes as many of them spend a lot of time and energy on their properties to maintain their property values.
