GreenJobs BC in Williams Lake Tonight

A coalition between environmental groups and unions in BC that work to provide jobs that are economically and environmentally green, is coming to the Cariboo.

Green Jobs BC will be holding a community meeting in Williams Lake tonight.

Jonathon Kassian with Green Jobs BC says the meeting is all about hearing and sharing success stories with communities and network organizations, including the Pembina Institute and to come up with plans to craft a green economy.

“For instance in the Kootenays, we did have folks who work in the coal mines come out and say we don’t normally go to environmental events but the sort of things you’re talking about make sense…We’re not really talking about wholesale changes to the economy what could happen 20 years down the road. We’re talking about things that can be today, tomorrow, next year.”

Kassian adds although there are still challenges, the province is at the forefront of providing jobs are economically and environmentally green.

“When you look at the continental picture; Canada and the US, BC with its hydro-electric resources, the green-tech companies coming out of Vancouver, the changes that happened under the carbon tax, we really are punching above our weight class in terms of the things coming out of BC. It’s an exciting place to be, even though there are a huge number of challenges…”

The meeting with GreenJobs BC will take place at 7 pm tonight at the Signal Point Gaming Centre (1640 South Broadway Ave) in Williams Lake.
