Lightning sparks 3 new wildfires in the Cariboo

Wildfire Management Branch crews are responding to several new wildfires sparked by a passing lightning storm in the Cariboo Fire Centre.

Lightning has sparked three new wildfires in the last couple of hours.

All of the fires are small and crews are attending.

Smoke may be highly visible from nearby highways and towns:

  • One wildfire is located just off of Highway 97 near 140 Mile.
  • A second is located near Anahim Flats in the Chilcotin.
  • The third is south of Mission Road near 150 Mile House.

The fire danger rating is high throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre with some pockets of extreme.

The Wildfire Management Branch says current weather forecast suggests a return to cooler temperatures over the next few days, which will help keep fire behavior under control on these lightning-caused fires.
