RCMP Investigate Unconfirmed Report of Vehicle in Quesnel River

Quesnel RCMP continues to investigate an unconfirmed report of a vehicle that may have plunged into Quesnel River.

RCMP say they received a complaint of a possible motor vehicle incident Sunday morning at 10:53  on Baston road where it crosses the Quesnel River.

An individual was out walking and noted tire marks that appeared to have left the roadway and minor vehicle debris in the bushes leading down to the river.

Cpl. Dave Tyreman with the North District RCMP says police attended the scene and a primary search of the area resulted in locating a BC license plate.

“We’re currently trying to contact the registered owner but have not been successful.”

“I don’t want to speculate at this time, but we believe a vehicle may have gone into the river or we have to rule out that a vehicle went into the river.”

“We have contacted our underwater rescue team. They’re in the process of making their way up here.”

Tyreman says they have traced the last known location of the registered owner and that it was 3:30 a.m on Sunday.

He says if anyone witnessed anything from 3:30 am until just before 11 or have further information to help RCMP confirm if a vehicle did go into the river to contact Quesnel RCMP.
