Fire Danger Ratings High in Cariboo Fire Centre despite cooler weather conditions

The Cariboo Fire Centre is urging caution due to high fire danger ratings.

Fire Information Officer, Emily Epp says although weather conditions have gotten cloudier with cooler temperatures and scattered showers, they haven’t been sufficient enough to lower the ratings.

“Forest fuels require sustained precipitation to retain moisture and a return to warm and dry conditions like we’ve seen recently increase the fire risk rapidly.”

“Little bits of rain isn’t enough to lower the fire danger ratings.”

Epp says crews have responded to 8 news fires this past week, 6 of which were human-caused.

She says fire the danger rating is currently high or moderate throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre with some pockets rated extreme.
