Senior Robbed by Man Who Offered to help find change for a shopping cart: Quesnel RCMP

Charges of Robbery and Breach of Probation have been recommended against a 31-year-old Quesnel man after he robbed an 82-year-old woman.

Staff Sgt. Darren Dodge says the incident took place Wednesday morning in a business parking lot on Reid Street.

He says RCMP were able to arrest the suspect shortly due to the quick responses of bystanders and witness statements.

He encourages others to follow suit during such incidents.

“Call the police, call 911. Let them know what’s going on, stay on the line. You know try and get a good description of the person that’s involved here,” he said.

“And as soon as the suspect or the person that’s caused this situation leaves, go over and check on the victim and stay with people-particularly people of this age. You know they can be quite confused; it’s a scary incident. Fortunately, in this incident, no one was injured.”

The victim who was attempting to find change for a shopping cart was approached by the suspect who asked her if she needed help and offered to find change for her.

When she opened her wallet, he pushed her grabbing money said police.
