City of Williams Lake Awards Contract for this year’s pavement rehabilitation and waterworks

The City of Williams Lake has awarded a contract to Peter Bros Construction Ltd. for this year’s pavement rehabilitation and waterworks.

Councilor and Chair of the Public Works Committee, Ivan Bonnell says along with the tendered amount of more than $987,000, the City will be reallocating $106,00 to cover higher than expected waterworks costs.

“Part of that pavement rehabilitation is to replace the water saddles that are underneath the road for the connections to the houses and properties all along the roadways.”

“Our budgetary estimates had underestimated the costs of what those replacements were going to be so we had to augment our budget by an extra $106,000 in order to meet the terms of that rehab program for 2015.”

Bonnell says the City has adequate funds and adds that it will not affect water rates.

He says he anticipates crews will begin work on the proposed sections of Cameron Street, Borland, and Yorston in the upcoming weeks.
