Car Chase Shooting on Western Avenue in Williams Lake Leaves Man in Critical Condition

A 28-year-old male is in critical condition after a car chase and several shots reported being fired in the 900 block of Western Avenue Saturday evening.

RCMP say the incident occurred at around 11 and that responding officers observed two vehicles leaving the direct area traveling at a high rate of speed.

They say it is believed that the vehicle in which the victim was a passenger in, was being pursued by a second vehicle.

As the chase proceeded through the 900 block of Western Avenue toward Highway 97, occupant(s) of the pursuing vehicle fired several shots at the lead vehicle. (The same vehicle in which the victim was a passenger).

Officers were only able to stop one of the vehicles involved and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

” We the police, cannot stress enough, the seriousness of this incident which took place in a residential area at a time when the majority of the occupants were home,” stated Cpl. Jason Pole of the Williams Lake General Investigation Unit.

“Multiple shots were fired from the suspect vehicle that was traveling at a high speed through a highly populated residential area created an extremely high risk to our community. It is a blessing that no one was hit by a stray bullet.”

The victim currently remains in critical condition in hospital.

Anyone with further information that will assist police in apprehending those responsible for this shooting, are asked to contact the General Investigation Section for the Williams Lake detachment of the RCMP at 250-392-6211.
