Proposed parking fees at College of New Caledonia not a done deal says Board member

It’s not a done deal!

That is former Quesnel Mary Sjostrom’s take on talk of paid parking at the College of New Caledonia in Quesnel.

Sjostrom, now a member of the CNC Board, says a decision…as far as she knows…hasn’t actually been made.

“I think the idea along with others has been floated as far as a cost-saving measure. I heard about this for the 1st time just prior to the graduation last week.”

“As a board member who’s only attended a couple of board meetings, that has been a matter of discussion. We have a board on Friday and I’ll be raising it.”

Sjostrom says she is sure the Post Secondary Education Council from Quesnel will also be raising the issue during a presentation to the Board on Friday.

As far as her personal opinion on paid parking, Sjostrom says she’s certainly not in favor of it as she says some students are already struggling to pay their tuition.

The President of the College of New Caledonia had recently announced a decision to potentially charge parking fees as part of their standardization, a decision that Mayor Bob Simpson was without any consultation.
