Toop Road/Hwy 97 Project Nearing Completion

A project that involves four-laning 1.5 kilometers of Highway 97 and intersection improvements at Carson Drive and Toop Road in Williams Lake is on schedule for completion this summer.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said the project is currently in winter layup and is approximately 60% complete.

Construction began on September 5, 2017, with an announcement a few days later stating Peterson Contracting Ltd. of Williams Lake was awarded the $17-million dollar contract.

Final costs have not been determined however the project is within budget,” a Ministry spokesperson said in an email to MyCaribooNow.

Williams Lake Council agreed last week to direct staff to prepare the City’s 5-Year Financial Plan bylaw with internal borrowing from the water fund for its $2-million dollar contribution to the project.

The project will also see the construction of a multi-use path adjacent to the highway and improvements made to the adjoining municipal network of McKinnon Road, 11th Avenue North, and Broadway Avenue North.
