Two Cariboo Community Groups Awarded Multiculturalism Grant

The Island Mountain Arts Society and the Cariboo-Chilcotin Partners for Literacy Society are each receiving $4,000 to promote multiculturalism and stand up to racism.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture announced the societies are two of 76 community groups receiving funds through the Province’s Multiculturalism Grant Program this year.

“Our communities grow stronger when we learn from each other and when we build an understanding of how we can all support one another,” said Ravi Kahlon, Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and Multiculturalism in a news release.

“There is no place for racism and hate in British Columbia. We must work together to stand up for equality and justice to truly eliminate intolerance and create a province where everyone is welcome.”

The grant in Wells will be used for three exceptional Indigenous speakers to share their personal story in a facilitated participatory storytelling session called A Collective Story Harvest.

In 100 Mile House, the International Cooking Series will provide newcomers and Canadians from all over the world an opportunity to share their traditional food and culture with the community.

The B.C. government provides $300,000 annually through the Multiculturalism Grant Program.
