Gas prices in the Cariboo have shot up by as much as 10 cents a litre at some locations in Quesnel, Williams Lake and 100 Mile House.
And Dan McTeague, a Senior Petroleum Analyst with Gasbuddy.com, says the price at the pump could go even higher by the time we hit the middle of April…
“Winter gasoline, which is of course cheaper to make and you see that in terms of reflection of pump prices occurs from September the 13th to April the 13th. Now there is obviously a time where the federal law regulations requires all gas stations to be dispensing that blend of fuel by those dates, so the next change will take place probably a week prior to April 15th, so I’m thinking between the 6th and the 10th of April you’ll see the introduction of summer blends of gasoline, which will bring with it about a three to four cent a litre hike.”
McTeague says prices also typically go up in the spring and summer simply because of higher demand and he says BC residents will also specifically be hit with an increase…
“On April first we also have a not too insignificant increase of 1.14 cents a litre plus GST on the carbon tax, which of course is the Provincial Government’s move every April 1st, April Fools Day, to increase the carbon tax for the foreseeable future.”
Most places in Quesnel right now are selling regular gasoline for a $1.29 a litre, it is $1.39 in Williams Lake and the average price at the pump in 100 Mile House is $1.27 a litre.
