The Department responded to Sigurdson Forest Service Products Ltd. at 12:45 pm.

“They were doing some digging out there, and they ended up hitting a gas line and they ended up evacuating their mill,” said deputy fire chief Rob Warnock.

“Gas was shut off to the rest of the buildings, and then we had to get Fortis to come in and find the shutoff and they shut a valve off for the whole mill.”

The Department was on scene for approximately 45 minutes as a precaution until Fortis arrived and was able to assess and shut the gas off.

“If we weren’t able to shut the gas off we were looking at shutting Soda Creek Road off a section in there in front of West Fraser Mills,” Warnock said.

“We actually had rail holdup also but everybody is free to travel along Soda Creek and the rail is going to be back into service there also.”

Warnock suspects crews from Fortis will be working on the line to get it back into service for the next couple of days.
