Williams Lake business owner threatened by man claiming to be a US Marshal

An unknown man entered a Williams Lake business, identified himself as a United States Federal Officer, and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun at the business owner Friday morning, RCMP confirm.

The Williams Lake RCMP say they had received and attended to a weapons complaint on Marwick Drive at 6:42 am.

The caller advised that an unknown man entered his business and identified himself as a United States Marshal.

The suspect stated that he was looking for two specific men whom he claimed are wanted for extortion and murder.

RCMP say when the owner did not take the man seriously, the suspect pulled out what appeared to be a handgun from a holster and pointed it at the business owner.

The suspect eventually left the business, leaving the owner physically unharmed.

Investigators were able to identify and arrest the suspect without incident around 10:30 am.

Several firearm and threat-related charges have been recommended.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and that the public is not currently at risk.
