Williams Lake’s 1st Legal Cannabis Shop to Soon Open

Details are being prepared for the ribbon-cutting of what will be the first legal retail cannabis facility in Williams Lake.

Chief of the Williams Lake Indian Band, Willie Sellars said the facility will open March 15th.

“Initially we have eleven people but that number is going to grow,” he said.

“As we continue into the industry on the retail side, there’s going to be more opportunity for not only the Williams Lake Indian Band but people within the City of Williams Lake.”

“We don’t just have Williams Lake Indian Band members working there. We have hired non-indigenous people, we have hired other First Nations from the direct area, and we’re pretty proud of that. I mean that’s kind of a cool opportunity and a cool industry, and a niche that people can apply and have some meaningful work and be able to provide for their families.”

The Williams Lake Indian Band announced the construction of the new cannabis retail facility on Indian Reserve #6 in December.

IR #6 that is located off South MacKenzie Avenue at the intersection with Borland Road near the entrance to Scout Island, has until now, been undeveloped.
