Taking Back the Streets From Bullies

Yesterday focused on bullying awareness in BC, and some local students went a step further.

Students from elementary schools in 100 Mile House and Lac la Hache participated in presentations and a walk to take back the streets with members of local emergency services and local government.

Staff Sgt. Sven Nielsen started the event when stationed in Vanderhoof and continues it since being stationed here.

“It kind of happened by accident,” he said.

“Lots of kids getting together for anti-bullying day, and myself and the mayor leading the group. It evolved from going onto the sidewalk to on the street. We set it up really quick and of course, it was really successful with the kids.”

Neilsen adds he is trying to bring it to more local schools.

“It shows the kids that the emergency personnel are responsive to the bully days and get the support of the local government as well.”
