Winter Visits Quesnel, Advocates for Tax Reform

BC’s tax system is not competitive.
That from the President of the BC Chamber of Commerce who was in Quesnel yesterday for the local Chamber’s annual general meeting.
John Winter says we have a tax system right now that is a very old an antiquated PST system where it is difficult to get a grasp on what applies and what doesn’t.
Winter says it is an area of great concern that needs to be addressed…
“What we’re asking the government for is a study to get into various other options of taxation that will help us to be more competitive.  Bringing back some form of value-added tax would help to do that. Dealing with a carbon tax, the certainty around it, would help that.” 
Winter even mentioned the H word at one point although he was quick to point out that he wasn’t suggesting that they bring back the HST.
He says some form of value-added taxes is needed, perhaps one that is less complicated and onerous.
