Pizza Store Employees Bear Sprayed in Tip Jar Robbery

Charges of robbery are being recommended for a 20-year-old Williams Lake female after RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at a popular pizza joint.

Police responded to the incident Friday evening at Red Tomato Pies.

“A female entered the store and stole the tips jar,” Cst. Sam Nakatsu said in a news release.

“Employees attempted to stop the suspect female, who then assaulted the employees with bear spray.”

Nakatsu said police were advised that the female suspect was followed to a residence.

“Williams Lake RCMP responded and surrounded the residence, shortly thereafter the female, who is well known to the police, came out and surrendered,” he said.

“The tip jar was returned to the owners.”

Employees affected by the bear spray were sent to Cariboo Memorial Hospital to be decontaminated and suffered minor injuries.
