Colder than normal temperatures will be sticking around this B.C. Family Day long weekend.
“Our averages for mid-February are highs of plus two and lows of minus eight so we’re not going to get even close to that for the next few days,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Trevor Smith.
“For today, for example, we’re looking at a high of minus eight and with the windchill it will feel more like minus twenty-three, and then tonight another cool night dropping down to minus nineteen and the windchills as low minus twenty-nine overnight.”
Although it’s a bit too early to look into how March will kickoff, Smith said below normal temperatures will continue throughout B.C at least through next weekend.
“We’ve had this Arctic airmass over B.C for almost two weeks now,” he said.
“Its really just an unusual jet stream pattern. Instead of the jet stream coming from the southwest from the Pacific like we often see it through the winter, it’s coming from the north and northeast so keeping this very cold, continental air bottled up over the province and it’s really been below normal throughout B.C for the last two weeks.”
