United Way And Former NHL Goalie Teaming Up

 

The United Way is bringing a former NHL goaltender, now advocate for mental health awareness and ending the stigma associated with mental illness, to the Cariboo.

Corey Hirsch, who spent the majority of his playing career with the Vancouver Canucks, will talk to students about his own struggles.

Community Wellness Manager for the United Way, Thompson Nicola Cariboo, Ashlee Hyde explains how this visit came about.

“He’s really good friends with our Executive Director in Kamloops so she had asked him if he’d be willing to travel around our region and provide some talks on anxiety and depression and he agreed which was wonderful.”

Hirsch’s first stop will be Monday at the 100 Mile House Wranglers home game for a tailgate party meet and greet from 2:30 til 3.

During the first intermission, Hirsch will hold anxiety and depression chat then he’ll be available to sign autographs during the second intermission.

Tuesday Hirsch will be in Williams Lake to visit both high schools then coming back March 12th to Quesnel.
