Quesnel Rodeo Club Will Make Big Change To Summer Rodeo

The Quesnel Rodeo Club is excited about a change that is being made for the summer rodeo during Billy Barker Days.

President Ray Jasper says for the first time they will be hosting a pro event at the same time as the BC Rodeo Association events…

We have been working hard all fall and winter with the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association to bring a pro Saddle Bronc riding event during our rodeo. So we’re going to be sanctioned by the CPRA as well as the PRCA, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, which is the pro equivalent in the U.S. We’re hoping we can get a good contingent of professionals at our rodeo. We’re putting up a healthy chunk of prize money. We’re hoping it will be a great addition to our performances.”

Jasper says this is someone that hasn’t been done before…

“Smithers had a professional Bareback event the day before the BCR Rodeo last year but no one has put it on with their actual rodeo performance, so this is definitely a first. It’s something that the CPRA hasn’t done before and I think we proved to them that we have a decent product and they were pretty excited to give it a try.”

In addition to C-Plus Rodeo, he says they will also be bringing in stock from Alberta.

Jasper says they made the decision, after they gave up the BC Finals after holding it for 15 years, that they were going to do everything they can to put on the best summer rodeo possible, and he feels this is in line with that.
