South Cariboo Search and Rescue attend flash flood in Cache Creek

It was a busy weekend for the South Cariboo Search and Rescue who were called into Cache Creek on Saturday after torrential rain caused a flash flood.

Search and Rescue Manager, James Seeley says 10 members were called in to assist with a team from Kamloops following reports of mobile trailers being washed away and a vehicle in a stream.

“At that time the Kamloops team had flown the debris area in a helicopter and spotted-sighted what was going on and it was determined there were no missing people so we didn’t have to really do any debris-torrent or stream search for missing people.”

“We stayed down there on a standby basis.”

Environment Canada meteorologist, Andre Besson says 26.9 mm of rain fell within an hour due to an unsettled pattern.

He says the pattern is expected to continue across B.C’s interior into the week.

“Temperatures are still fairly warm all over the Interior, as a matter of fact, we even broke daily temperatures over parts of the province most notably in the northeast part of the province.”

“It’s still fairly warm-warm air, of course, can hold more moisture than cold air.”

A state of local emergency was declared in Cache Creek yesterday.
