Very Cold Wind Chills Return

It was a short reprieve from very cold wind chills that have made a return to the Cariboo.

An extreme cold warning was issued Friday morning for Quesnel and Williams Lake.

“We’ve seen a resurgent of this Arctic air arrive early this morning so we’ve seen those winds pick up,” said Environment Canada meteorologist, Matt MacDonald.

“Those winds are only going to get stronger throughout the day. So with the winds and the temperatures, we’re looking at wind chills at about minus 40 hence that extreme cold warning.”

MacDonald said wind chill values are expected to improve midday Saturday.

“There is a good chance of seeing these resurgents of Arctic air,” he said.

“What happens is we get these blasts of Arctic air, we get settled into the cold air, and we see this very gradual warming trend but temperatures staying well below normal, about ten degrees below normal for this time of year.”

“It looks like next weekend we might see another blast of this Arctic air so keep those long johns and puffy jackets handy.”
