The Williams Lake Farmers Market is exploring hosting a Tuesday market this season.
“That’s still very much in the process of being discussed,” said Secretary of the Cariboo Direct Farmers’ Market Association, Barb Scharf.
“We have the go-ahead to look into that from the City, and then the next step will be to obviously see if there would be enough vendors to make it fly.”
Scharf adds the Tuesday market would be in addition to their Friday markets, and that an informal Facebook poll showed keen interest from customers in having an additional weekday market.
“The Friday would remain sort of the main market, we have it very well established now and we’re pretty happy with how it runs,” she said.
“The Tuesday night market is meant to be supplementary to that or if it does fly hopefully we would be able to have two strong markets. The issue with some of the vendors is just being able to commit to two days out of their week because there’s a day of prep time before each market.”
In addition to a Tuesday market that would run from 3 to 7 pm, the Market Association is exploring to erect a permanent advertising sign on site of the market and to put a semi-permanent cargo trailer or shed on site for storage.
“We’re hoping to have some sort of game plan by probably mid-April,” Scharf said.
“A lot of the growers are still formulating their plans for the year which is why we needed to discuss it so early because it would be a big deal for people to actually prepare for a second market. If people are kind of antsy we might even be looking at starting it part way through the season so we’d probably be looking at maybe early June to roll it out on a test basis.”
The first Farmers Market of the season takes place on Friday, May 10th next to Kiwanis Park.
