RCMP have now suspended the search for missing Merrit area rancher Ben Tyner.

The search was suspended after a week due to a large area being searched, and extreme weather conditions. Several local SAR groups from the Interior were involved with the search including South Cariboo Search and Rescue.

“We were involved in sweep searches, which is people walking in a line, checking out any bush or log that a person might be under or behind. We were also involved in tracking as well,” says local SAR member Bill Leighton.

Tyner was last seen Saturday, January 26 and his riderless horse was spotted two days later by loggers in the Merritt area.

RCMP say the search will resume if more information is found. They ask anyone with information to contact the Merritt RCMP or Crimestoppers.
